Baby Sister for Herry
Published in Hardcover by Golden Pr (August, 1984)
Average review score:

Great for AdjustingMy father bought me this book when I was five years old on the day that my baby sister was born. I did not understand the little person who was taking all of the attention and with this book, Herry was having the same issues. I am now 21 and I wish I still had it. It will be something valuable to pass on to my children.

Baking For Dummies®

Even A Lug Like Me Can BakeBaking always seemed impossible to me - I'd be lucky to get anything to rise, my food would always weigh a ton and, basically, unless someone really loved me, they probably wouldn't eat more than a couple bites. But with Baking for Dummies, all that has changed. I now whip out cupcakes, breads
and pastry with ease. I can't say enough about the handy tips that the author includes, I've found them extremely useful with other recipies as well. I'm fattening up my office mates with the bounty from my oven and finding that there is great piece of mind in baking.

The Ballot Box Battle
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Average review score:

Beautiful and imaginative pictures. This story takes place in the late 1800's when Mrs. Stanton-the famous women's rights activist-was still alive. It deals with a young girl, Cordelia, who wants to ride Mrs. Stanton's horse. Mrs. Stanton instead of letting her ride the horse tells her about her childhood experiences. Mrs. Stanton also also makes a great impact on Cordelia when she tries to vote and is not allowed. This in turn inspires Cordelia to stand up for herself.
It is a well-written story that shows what life was like for women before they got to vote. It shows that injustices can be overcome when we put our minds to it and when we don't let what others say get in our way of realizing our dreams. This would be a good story to read to 5th and 6th graders as an introduction to American history in this century.
The pictures are beautiful. They recall images of a by-gone era. It is interesting that men and boys are painted in darker colors, while Cordelia wears lighter colors.

Mirette On the HighwireI liked this book because it gives off a lot of self feelings. The problem is faciniting. I could hardly beleave that no of the informaition was true! Emily Arnold McCully expresses her beautiful artwork in this book. I definitly would recomend it to all of my friends no matter how old or young they are. I am sure, thanks to all of the work put into this book, that my friends will like it. I know I did and I know they will too.

The Belgian Essays: A Critical Edition
Published in Hardcover by Yale Univ Pr (February, 1997)
Average review score:

Obligatory for Bronte ExpertsSue Lonoff has done a tremendous job in collecting, transcribing and translating the Belgian Essays of Emily and Charlotte Bronte. The essays are represented first in their original/French version, including M.Hegers corrections, then in translation. The comments Lonoff made are very instructive, however, this book will mostly attract the scientific Bronte enthusiast. After all it has to be admitted that school essays, however elaborate they may be, cannot be regarded at as literature.

Beyond the Four Corners of the World: A Navajo Woman's Journey
Published in Paperback by Univ of Oklahoma Pr (Trd) (September, 1998)
Average review score:

vivid, fascinating, well researchedThe story of Ella and her struggle with illness and how it intersects with her spiritual and cultural world is at once fascinating and very sad. To read Benedek's account is to travel by literary horseback deep in the rez, and meet the residents of a different world, one which is changing, one which is struggling to hold onto traditional ways at the same time. I recommend this book to anyone with interest in native people, anyone interested in cultural perspectives on illness. And anyone else! Benedek is academic and personal, she takes you there.

Beyond the Shadow
Published in Paperback by Boyd Pub Co (28 December, 1999)
Average review score:

Great Book!I found this to be a wonderfull and heart warming story, of a strong willed woman and her struggle with an undiagnoised illness. Hearing her words gives the reader strength and determination to make it through any tough situation. Her straight forword approach to writting makes it a simple read and truly makes one feel as if you are merely having a conversation with the author. Hearing her story and feeling her pain through her words, I could not put this book down. I ended up finsihing the book in one day because I could not wait to see how everything turned out. I reccomend this book 100% to anyone out there who has stuggled with any sort of problem medical or not. This book truly brings forth the power of human will and determination to overcome any obstactle no matter what the circumstances.
